Find Marquette County Jail Releases

To find someone released from Marquette County Jail, first separate a community release from a transfer to another custodian. The Sheriff’s booking and release record is the direct source for the county jail exit. Court records and state custody alerts can add context, while state and federal locators apply only after a matching handoff. A missing name in the current inmate lookup is not enough. Marquette County Jail release confirmation depends on the recorded event, the release authority, and any receiving agency shown for the custody change.

Marquette County Jail Release Paths

A person can leave Marquette County Jail in several different ways. Bond, a court order, time served, sentence completion, or another final disposition may lead into the community. Transport to an MDOC prison, another county jail, USMS custody, ICE, court, or a medical facility ends the stay in the building but does not necessarily end custody. The Sheriff release record should show the date, authority or disposition, and receiving agency when one exists and may lawfully be disclosed.

Probation or a bond condition may continue after a community exit. A person transferred to MDOC enters or remains on the state-prison track, with later status available through OTIS. A federal hold may lead to USMS transport and, where applicable, later BOP records. An ICE handoff must be followed through ICE and ERO channels. “Left Marquette County Jail” is therefore narrower than “free from custody.”

Important: A transfer ends the county jail stay but continues custody. Preserve the event label and receiving agency.

Confirm Marquette County Jail Release

Marquette County has no official 24-hour or 72-hour browser release list. The official Sheriff app is described as a current inmate lookup that begins publication after arraignment. App absence can reflect release, transfer, delayed publication, or a status correction. Use a chain of records instead of treating the screen change as a certified time.

  1. Identify the full name, date of birth or booking number, likely custody dates, and the court case when known.
  2. Check MI-VINE for the matching person, supplying agency, and event. Read “release” and “transfer” literally.
  3. Search MiCOURT for bond, dismissal, judgment, sentence, or transfer context.
  4. Request the Sheriff booking and release entry, including recorded exit time, authority, and receiving agency.
  5. If the record shows MDOC, federal, or ICE transfer, continue with that custodian’s official source.

The county release record gives the physical event. MiCOURT gives legal context. MI-VINE through VINELink can corroborate a change reported by the supplying agency, but a notice should not be broadened beyond that agency. The complete county search and records route is also set out on the Marquette County released inmates search.

Marquette County Jail Release Records

A focused request gives the custodian the best chance to locate one custody episode. Ask for the booked name and identifiers, booking number and time, arresting or committing agency, charge and case number, bond entry, release date and time, release authority or disposition, and receiving agency or destination. If a photograph is needed, identify it as the booking photograph associated with that booking.

The Marquette County FOIA hub offers procedures, forms, fee information, and appeal material. An online form permits a specific description and a delivery choice. Request electronic records and all reasonably segregable nonexempt portions. If material is withheld, ask for the cited exemption. If no record exists under the identifiers given, ask the county to say so.

Michigan FOIA generally requires a grant, denial, partial response, or extension notice within five business days. One extension of no more than ten business days may be used. Permitted fees are itemized under MCL 15.234. No flat Marquette County price for a jail release sheet or booking photo was found, so request an estimate before costs exceed a stated limit.

Marquette County Jail Contact

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office operates the jail. Sheriff Gregory S. Zyburt, Undersheriff Lowell A. Larson Jr., and Corrections Captain Brian H. Steede were named on the official Sheriff page when the research was completed. The jail address is the correct physical-office reference, but the live county directory should be checked for the current phone number before relying on a copied listing.

Marquette County Jail

236 W. Baraga Avenue
Marquette, Michigan

Public service window: open daily except 6:45 to 7:15 a.m., 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., and 4:45 to 5:15 p.m. Other safety closures may occur.

Those periods describe public-window closures. They are not inmate release times. Before arraignment, the jail says public information may be limited to whether the person is lodged and the bond amount. A bond figure or eligibility statement does not prove that all holds cleared or that physical exit occurred.

Note: Public-window closure periods describe counter access and should never be reported as Marquette County Jail release hours.

Marquette Jail App Release Limits

The official app is available through the Apple App Store and Google Play. Local launch reporting says the inmate lookup begins after arraignment. The store descriptions do not promise a release archive, a 24-hour window, a 72-hour window, or a retention period for former inmates.

The county’s move away from MobilePatrol gives this limit local importance. Sheriff Zyburt cited inaccurate information as a concern when Marquette stopped appearing in that third-party feed. The later app was described as controlled by the Sheriff’s Office. A current record is useful for a present-custody clue. A missing record remains weak evidence of release.

It anchors the county-jail facts and reinforces that the public website does not provide a browser archive of former inmates.

Note: The moment a name vanishes from an app is an observation, not the jail’s certified release timestamp.

Marquette Jail Transfer Release Checks

An MDOC transfer should be followed in OTIS. A PRISON status or MDOC location confirms continued state custody. A Parole Board Jurisdiction Date is only the earliest release date, not proof of exit. A later PAROLE status paired with Date Paroled supports actual prison release to supervision. DISCHRG means MDOC jurisdiction ended as OTIS defines it.

The jail can hold up to ten federal inmates. That does not make it a BOP prison. USMS commonly manages federal pretrial detention and transport, and there is no comparable public USMS historical release locator. If the person later enters BOP’s locator population, a BOP “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” result ends only BOP custody. Another agency or supervision may still apply.

No dedicated ICE detention site was identified in Marquette County. An ICE transfer is not community release. The ICE locator is designed for current adult detention, and a no-result can reflect transfer, lag, spelling, coverage, or release. Begin with the county receiving-agency entry, then use ICE or ERO follow-up.

Note: Each locator confirms only its own custodian, so a no-result never establishes release from all custody systems.

Marquette County Jail History

The current Marquette County Jail was built in 1975. The official county history says it was considered a model jail statewide. It has 80 beds and may house up to ten federal inmates. These details are useful for release interpretation because the population can include both local cases and people held for a federal authority.

The Sheriff’s official history is captured in the manifest image below.

The facility history provides local context, while the booking and release event remains the source for what happened to one person.

A federal placement inside the county jail can make the phrase “released from Marquette County Jail” misleading. The person may have left the local building under guard. The receiving agency resolves that ambiguity.

Marquette Jail Release Program Meaning

The Sheriff’s “Release Program” is a local naming trap. Work Pass-Day Parole permits a scheduled absence for work, accredited education or training, or community treatment when a presiding judge orders it. The participant remains incarcerated. The published cost is $25 per day.

Temporary absence through the program should never be reported as final release. A person may be outside the building for an approved purpose while still serving the jail term. The court order describes the pass. The final Sheriff release event establishes when custody actually ended.

The program’s charge is also not a FOIA fee. Jail stay reimbursement is a separate $60 daily charge billed after incarceration ends, with medical and mental-health costs handled separately. Neither bill supplies the exact exit time.

After Marquette Jail Release

Jail Services publishes a specific rule for subscriptions. After release, the former inmate must cancel newspaper and magazine subscriptions. Later issues are not forwarded or returned and are placed in the jail library. That is the only narrow after-release mail instruction documented in the research.

No official source located for Marquette publishes a general property-return schedule, identification replacement process, release door, transportation arrangement, family waiting area, or weekend release plan. Those facts should not be guessed. Ask jail staff about the specific person and preserve the answer separately from the formal release record.

Note: The subscription rule is documented, but no general Marquette County Jail property handoff or transportation plan was found.

Marquette Jail Release Evidence

The strongest county evidence is the custodian’s recorded booking and release event. MiCOURT is strongest for the legal disposition. MI-VINE can support a supplying agency’s custody change. OTIS answers MDOC status, and federal locators answer only their own systems. Old news reports or third-party mirrors rank below the agency record.

If dates conflict, ask whether each one is the court order, database update, transport, physical exit, parole start, or supervision discharge. Confirm the identity and custody episode before comparing them. A narrow statement such as “Marquette County Jail recorded a transfer” is more accurate than merging several records into an unsupported community-release claim.

Release authority
The legal or administrative basis recorded for the exit.
Receiving agency
The custodian that accepted the person after a transfer.
Detainer
A request or hold that may prevent community release or cause a transfer.
Arraignment
The early court stage after which the local app is reported to begin publication.
